We decided to move to Cornwall in May 2012 having previously lived in Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire. Our work had taken us all over the UK and much further afield, as well as necessitated regular day trips into London and we felt it was time for a somewhat more relaxing way of life. After best part of thirty years in the corporate world and with a desire to spend more time with family and our two crazy Springer spaniels we decided to seek out a new challenge in a more rural location. That is how we came across Ivyleaf Cottage.
It is hard not to fall in love with our location and the views from the top of the site along the North Cornwall coast, which on a clear day can stretch about 25 miles and never fail to lift ones spirits. From the moment we first set eyes on it we knew this was where we wanted to build our future.
During the summer of 2013 we carried out a complete top to bottom renovation of the cottage as it had fallen into some considerable state of disrepair prior to our purchase. This gave us the opportunity to make some exciting changes including underfloor heating through all of the ground floor and installing a wood pellet boiler to provide piping hot on demand water and all heating needs. We were keen to reduce the dependency on fossil fuels and adopt a more sustainable lifestyle approach as part of the renovation process.
Our Camping and Caravanning Club CS licensed site has also undergone considerable modernisation since we move in, as although it had operated to some extent in the previous four or five years it was on a very limited basis. We currently have ten grass pitches all with electric hook-up and a hard standing parking area which also doubles up as a hard standing pitch at the times of the year when the weather is less forgiving. Most pitches have great views across the valley and in some cases down the North Cornwall coast, a few are more secluded offering additional privacy.
We don't have an onsite shop, bar, club or nightly entertainment but we can offer a warm camp fire around which you can meet new friends, listen to the owls ushering in the twilight and enjoy a glass or two of fine Cornish wine or cider. If we can entice someone who can play a tune we might even have a sing song, which will definitely keep the wildlife at bay :-).
Ivyleaf Cottage Holidays is the perfect base for exploring the West Country, all of Cornwall, Devon and Somerset's attractions are within day trip range, but for those days when you just can't face driving very far Bude and the surrounding area has plenty to keep you occupied. If you can't face getting in the car at all there is a pay and play golf course, mountain boarding, forest archery and paintballing only a short walk from the site. Within a twenty minute drive there is an extensive range of facilities and attractions including several delightful beaches with a multitude of water sports opportunities, wide ranging sports facilities (see the Out and About section for details of our arrangement with Penstowe Leisure for Ivyleaf Cottage Holidays guests) and picturesque sea side villages like Boscastle.
